Strategic Expansion into Hong Kong

The impact and duration of COVID-19 varied significantly across Asia. Singapore was relatively fortunate, managing a swift and smooth exit from the pandemic. This positioned the city as an attractive destination for companies and talent seeking to relocate, particularly during the period when Hong Kong faced stricter restrictions.

As Hong Kong emerges from the pandemic, new opportunities are arising, marking a phase of readjustment and potential revitalization for the city. Meanwhile, rising living costs and tighter work pass regulations in Singapore are beginning to challenge its ability to sustain corporate growth.

By building our foundation on the warm ashes of COVID-19, we are cultivating growth in new soil—anchored by strong roots and guided by a long-term vision.

As one of the region’s most dynamic technology hubs, this strategic expansion strengthens cross-business opportunities with Singapore and Bangalore, while enabling us to better support local enterprises in their Cloud, Data, and DevOps transformation journey with our onshore and offshore expertise.

Overview of BNP Engagement

Our strategic move was supported by one of our largest clients—a leading French bank—whose vision closely aligned with ours. Both parties recognized that a realignment in candidate sourcing and location was essential to avoid overexposure to a single country, which could lead to bottlenecks and regulatory constraints.

Together, we chose to advance this strategy by relocating in parallel with our client. This decision not only expanded our geographical service coverage but also marked a shift in mindset—bringing us closer to our North Asia counterparts and deepening our regional relationships.

For our client, this meant gaining a committed partner willing to invest alongside them in a strategic transition. It strengthened our partnership, enhanced our delivery capabilities, and opened access to a broader talent pool.

Operational Setup and Local Team Deployment in Hong Kong

From an operational standpoint, we adopted a two-step approach:

  1. We began building a viable business case remotely from Singapore, supported by frequent travel to Hong Kong to engage with clients and local stakeholders.
  2. In parallel, we identified and recruited key personnel based in Hong Kong who could help us establish our local presence, open the subsidiary, and drive business growth. Learn more about our Hong Kong expansion here.

From a strategic perspective, our goal was to replicate the proven model that had driven our success in Singapore over the past decade, while adapting to local market preferences. Although our technolog
y focus and areas of expertise remained consistent, we recognized two key differences between the markets: their maturity and appetite for offshore delivery and language preferences. Addressing these two factors was critical to our successful development in Hong Kong.

With minimal regulatory and administrative hurdles, we were able to concentrate our efforts on business expansion and regional strategy—supporting key clients both locally and globally.

Client Impact: Delivering Value for BNP in Hong Kong

Building on our initial success, we rapidly grew our consulting team from one to five members, leveraging our regional presence across Singapore, India, and Hong Kong. This distributed setup enabled us to deliver the right skills in the right location, drawing on our deep understanding of the client’s business and context to source talent quickly and effectively.

This business case highlights both our adaptability and our ability to address similar needs across different geographies, strengthening our credibility in the market. Aligned with our core values of Adaptability and Proximity, we transform regional requirements into local deliverables (by maintaining close relationships with our clients and staying responsive to their evolving needs).

Looking Forward: Growth Opportunities in Hong Kong

We will build on our initial success in the FSI sector to demonstrate our strength and capabilities as a regional player. Our objective is to expand our client portfolio by targeting upper mid-market companies seeking a partner that combines the flexibility of a boutique consulting firm with the ability to scale and support the transformation and industrialization of their delivery and operations.

As both a consulting firm and managed services provider, our commitment to operational excellence and accountability gives us a unique and differentiated position in the market.

Aligned with our strategic vision, we will continue to invest in local talent—training, nurturing, and expanding our delivery capabilities in Hong Kong. Once we have established a stable foundation, we plan to continue our geographic expansion, looking further north for the next phase of growth.
