Daryl plays a key role in supporting HR operations at Neurones IT Asia—handling a range of employee-related matters and administrative processes. He helps keep things running smoothly behind the scenes and is steadily building his expertise in the operational side of HR.

In our conversation with Daryl, he shares what he has learned so far and his perspective on building a career in human resources.

Can you describe your current role in HR at Neurones IT Asia?

I support key functions across employee operations, payroll, and employee engagement.

Under employee operations, I manage day-to-day HR processes including maintaining and verifying leave balances, addressing employee queries, drafting employment contracts and letters, and ensuring accurate and timely employee data updates in our HR systems. I also help ensure compliance with statutory requirements and internal HR policies.

In the area of payroll, I ensure timely salary payments, deductions, and statutory contributions (such as CPF, SDL, and IRAS submissions) are processed accurately and on time. I also assist in resolving payroll-related issues raised by staff.

For employee engagement, I plan and execute activities such as festive celebrations, health and wellness initiatives, and team-building events to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture. I also support feedback initiatives and staff welfare programmes that aim to improve employee morale and retention.

What inspired you to pursue a career in HR?

My extroverted personality and strong people-oriented approach naturally drew me to a career in Human Resources. I thrive in environments that involve collaboration, communication, and understanding diverse perspectives. My time in the National Service doing recruitment further reinforced my interest in supporting and working with people from different backgrounds. These experiences, combined with my formal education in Human Resource Management, have equipped me with both the practical skills and theoretical foundation to make a meaningful impact. HR allows me to channel my strengths into fostering positive workplace cultures, driving employee engagement, and supporting organizational growth through people-focused strategies.

How do you ensure the confidentiality and protection of sensitive employee information in your role?

As an HR Executive, I take the confidentiality and protection of sensitive employee information very seriously. I strictly adhere to the guidelines set out under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) in Singapore. This includes ensuring that access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel only and stored securely, whether in digital or physical form. I work closely with IT to enforce security protocols such as encrypted storage, password protection, and controlled access rights. Additionally, I ensure that data is only collected and used for legitimate business purposes, and I educate staff on data protection practices to minimize risks of breaches or mishandling.

Do you have a favorite quote or mantra you live by?

One of my favorite mantras is, “Choose joy.” I am generally a positive individual, and I believe in approaching life with optimism and keeping things light, even during challenges. A positive mindset not only lifts my own spirits but also creates a better environment for those around me—both at work and in life.
